Sofía Velázquez is a Peruvian independent filmmaker, editor and writer. Her work has been screened at exhibitions and festivals such as Mar del Plata, Málaga or Neighboring Scenes and platforms such as Aashara – Contemporary Artistic Practices. Her latest film, About Everything there is to know (2021), won a Special Jury Mention at Mar del Plata, Best International Film at DocBahía and was part of the 20 best Latin American films for Cinema Tropical in 2022.
As a member of the Mercado Central Collective she has organized and worked in collective projects such as From the inside: Audiovisual stories of female subjectivities in confinement spaces, Hilando Miradas: first audiovisual residency for women in Puno or QAWASPA KUTIPAY organized by the Peruvian Collective Chola Contravisual. She is a former fellow of MacDowell, Union Docs and the Yaddo and now is working in her new film The Colloquium of the birds. Has a master’s degree in Visual Anthropology and teaches in the Postgraduate Program in the PUCP university.
She is editor of films such as El Archivo Bastardo (2024) by Marianela Vega, Qué es lo que puede un cuerpo (2025) by Violeta Rodríguez and No hay ido sin retorno (2025) by Carlos Sánchez Giraldo. She is also working collaboratively with artist Carine Doumit on a project tentatively titled “C’est ici que je vis”.
